I've always thought of this act as indoor picnicking and a way for us to get closer to the food and to one another. No heads of a table-- no wooden legs and corners to separate us from one another. We all sat around this simple cloth, knees touching, breaking bread and sharing food as equals. Nostalgia hit me hard today, and I didn't want to sit at a lonely table to eat my lunch of leftover pasta and salad (both of which I didn't make), so I laid a canvas cloth onto the floor, and sat. After a few weeks, we've finally almost settled in after our move across town. I also finished the manuscript and photos for the book, and now I'm searching for another project to work on while everything else happens in the background (and yes, the site will finally be updated soon!). I didn't sleep much last night; lots of thoughts kept racing through my mind. It could've been the three chocolate chip cookies and tea I had before bed or the after-stress from everything. Some tears were shed, but after a couple minutes of feeling bad for myself, I wrote. I sat in the darkness of my bedroom and wrote about everything; I thought that writing might've been the very last thing I wanted to do after finishing a book, but that doesn't hold true. Instead, it's the only way for me to say what I honestly feel without being interrupted. I guess that's what most writing is all about: it's about being honest and gathering words and just letting it all out--for yourself, to a person, to a group of people--whatever.
